Pilar receives water system project from DILG as SGLG incentive

The Municipality of Pilar once again reaped the fruits of transparency and efficiency in public service, during a ceremony held on Thursday, September 21, 2023, for the turnover from the DILG of the water system constructed at the Pilar Modern Palengke.

The project was funded through the SGLG Incentive Fund obtained by the LGU as part of the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) Award for the year 2022. The SGLG is an award, incentive, honor and recognition-based program for all LGUs that aims to encourage them to continually progress and improve their performance along various governance areas. The SGLG Incentive Fund is a provision of Republic Act No. 11292, which grants financial assistance to LGUs that have passed the SGLG assessment.

Present during the ceremony were DILG Provincial Director Belina T. Herman CESO V, LGOO V Khalid Sunggod PDMS Chief, SGLGIF Provincial Focal Person Engr. Michael Angelo Masiclat, and Mayor Charlie Pizarro who received the awarded project, while Vice Ces Garcia, the Members of the Sangguniang Bayan and the heads of the various departments were in attendance to witness the occasion.

Mayor Pizarro expressed his gratitude to the DILG for recognizing the efforts of his administration in delivering quality public services to his constituents. He also thanked the barangay officials and the market vendors for their cooperation and support in making the Pilar Modern Palengke a reality.

The Pilar Modern Palengke is a project that aims to provide a clean, spacious and modern market where affordable and fresh food products can be bought by the residents of Pilar and nearby towns3. It also plans to have a fishermen’s wharf, where large fishing boats can unload their catch directly to the market sellers, ensuring freshness and low prices.

The water system project is one of the components of the Pilar Modern Palengke that will ensure adequate and safe water supply for the market operations. It will also help improve sanitation and hygiene practices among the market vendors and customers. The DILG officials congratulated Mayor Pizarro and his team for their exemplary performance in local governance and for being one of the recipients of the SGLG Award for 2022. They also encouraged them to continue striving for excellence and innovation in serving their people. The Municipality of Pilar is one of the few LGUs in Bataan that have consistently passed the SGLG assessment since its inception in 2014. It has also been recognized as one of the most competitive municipalities in Central Luzon by the National Competitiveness Council.
